Welcome back!
Hope everyone had a relaxing break. This week we will work on some indoor and outdoor projects. We have very little left to do in terms of new content, so much of the remainder of the class will be spent reviewing for the final and lab practical. We will begin working through our study guides next week which will give you a good idea of what information will be on the exam. This week we will learn how to make wreaths and garland out of tree trimmings. Later in the week we will learn about the role of specific plants in different cultures around the world. Happy Pre-Break Week! This week we will be wrapping up some content and getting the greenhouse and garden ready for winter. Monday we will be reviewing for our quiz and finalizing our purchases for final projects. Tuesday will be the quiz, please let me know if you have any questions. The quiz will cover photosynthesis and plant pathology. The rest of the week we will be working outside in the greenhouse so come dressed appropriately! Below are the powerpoint slides that will be covered on the quiz.
Hope everyone is having a great week so far!
We are finishing up our photosynthesis board games today in class. Your grade will be a mix of my grade and the peer review forms. I've attached the rubric you will be graded on below. We will have two more units for the remainder of the semester covering plant propagation and plant disease management. After we are done with content, we will be working on our SAE projects in class until the end of the semester. Be sure you have filled out your proposals. I will be discussing the purchases with groups individually next week, so if you need to look up prices please do that ASAP! Hi everyone,
Overall great job on the test last week! The overall average was a 73.5 BEFORE corrections, meaning we should be in the high 80's afterwards. Five students received a 100%! Quiz corrections are due on Monday unless you took the test late. I am reading through your proposals this week and will be pulling groups aside to ask about supplies, which I hope to have ordered by Friday. This week we will be learning about mosses, lichen, and liverworts. All three contain photosynthesizing cells, which will lead us into our next chapter on photosynthesis. Please be sure to wear comfortable outdoor clothes for Monday-Wednesday as we will be outside collection samples in the forest for our terrariums. -Mr. Dezern Hi everyone, Please be sure to continue studying for the test this Wednesday. We will be reviewing beforehand using the study guides. If you have any questions on the study guide, be sure to ask before the exam so we can go over it! Below are the study guide materials as well as the review vocab. Please review as needed!
Happy December!
This past week we designed decorations for our Shop-with-a-Wildcat event this coming Saturday. Decorations are a great way to showcase plants, and our students have done a great job doing just that. This week we will create some centerpieces for tables with a winter theme and begin preparations for our new garden space! Happy Monday!
This week we will be applying the principles of floral design we learned last week to creating decorations and centerpieces for Senior project night. On Thursday, we will be starting the Bee Movie and discussing the fact and fiction portrayed in the movie about social insects. I will not be in class on Friday, so you will finish the movie with a sub. Have a great break! Happy Halloween!
This week is all about planning for upcoming events. A huge part of horticulture is the use of flowers and foliage in decorative settings, and we have tons of opportunities to do that around campus. We already re-flowered the breezeway and front of school, but we aren't stopping there! To get ready for senior project night, we are going to design some floral centerpieces, and we will also be making bouquets for the Miss WHS pageant this Saturday. Continuing the course, we will harvest what is left of our winter garden and begin moving our delicate perennials into the greenhouse. Then, we can begin preparations for the Spring plant sale! Happy Friday everyone!
Next week we will have a test on the second unit of content starting with plant nutrients and moving through plant descriptors and plant breeding techniques. You will receive a study guide to help you prepare. The second half of the week we will begin our entomology unit. Entomology is the study of insects, so to help us, we will have a guest lecturer from the Cobb county extension office. |
